History
The Village Hall in Armitage with Handsacre was first opened on Friday the 25th of November 1994 by F.W. Lewis, J.P, C.C. Chairman of the Village Hall Committee. It was opened in a ceremony led by the chairman with more than 60 local people joining the ceremony. The Village Hall took five years worth of fundraising to open it and the committee raised over £350,000 towards the project, this included funding from RECHAR, the European Development Grant for Deprived Mining Areas including local donations and County Council grants.
The project to build the Village Hall was launched in 1987 and after a battle for space and funding the plans were drawn up, with construction beginning in 1993. The project was backed by National Power, Staffordshire County Council and Armitage Shanks.
On February the 7th 2002 the extension opened, this gave the hall an extra office room, a messy play area for local groups that use the hall and another storage room. This project was funded principally by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and support of Armitage with Handsacre Parish Council and Lichfield District Council.
Further to the first extension, in September 2011 a private outdoor play area was added in for the Armitage Preschool.
